Getting Started with JoinFunds
Overview
JoinFunds is a household finance app built for UK couples. This guide walks you through the three essential steps to get up and running: creating your household, adding a bank account, and importing your first CSV statement.
Set up your household
Sign in with Google or magic link
Head to the login page and choose Sign in with Google or enter your email for a magic link. No passwords needed — just click the link in your inbox.
Create your household
After signing in for the first time, JoinFunds automatically creates a household for you. You become the owner with full control over accounts, categories, and settings.
Explore the dashboard
Your dashboard is your home base. It shows your net worth, spending summary, recurring bills, and savings goals at a glance.
Income
£3,200
Spending
£1,840
Saved
£1,360
Add your first account
Add a bank and account
Go to Accounts in the sidebar and click Add Account. Select your bank from the typeahead list of 29 UK banks — the currency defaults to GBP automatically. Give the account a name like "Nationwide Current" and save.
Import your first transactions
Import a CSV statement
Navigate to Import in the sidebar. Drag and drop a CSV file exported from your online banking. JoinFunds auto-detects the format for Nationwide, Barclays, HSBC, Revolut, Monzo, Wise, and Starling. Your file is processed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.
Review and confirm
Check the automatic categorisation (60+ UK merchant rules built in), skip any duplicates, and hit Import. Your transactions are now in JoinFunds, ready to budget against.
After your first import, head to Organise to review the auto-categorisation rules. Creating a few custom rules for your regular merchants means future imports are categorised automatically.
